Embracing A Creative Mindset

The idea that an artwork is the manifestation of an artist’s thoughts or vision seems obvious to us today.

However, this was not the case from the seventeenth through the nineteenth centuries. Budding artists at art schools across western Europe would learn by copying well-regarded works from earlier artists. Students were expected to reproduce these art pieces faithfully before creating their works. But, even then, they had to contribute to well-established traditions.

In the early twentieth century, modern art abstractly reflected modern society and ignored traditional art values. For example, abstract shapes would be used in place of complex drawings to represent the mood and feeling of the imagery rather than the explicit imagery itself.

In the mid-nineteenth century, Gustav Courbet challenged convention by rejecting the historical and mythological subjects that had dominated art for centuries. His paintings shocked the art world as he chose to paint scenes of daily life.

The movement grew as modernist artists created something not yet seen by bringing simplistic abstract thoughts to the surface, ignoring the traditional techniques of the past.

Fast forward to today, and the birth of the internet (& a creative mindset) enables anyone anywhere to bring something new to the world in a manner and accessibility that Gustav Courbet could never have imagined.

Yet many people fail to grasp the power of a creative mindset and are stuck in the mindset of repeating what is already known.

My dream of disrupting the old dusty world of coaching training certification by removing the barriers cost, time, and place for individuals and organisations is only made possible through technology that did exist a few years ago.

We all have much to learn from the modernist artists as they rejected the traditional norms of the art world, which led to them reimagining their world.
